Introducing a Minecraft Mātauranga Build Challenge,

the first-ever hui of its kind in Ōtepoti, Dunedin.

Are you ready to bring your A-Game to the first Ōtepoti Mātauranga Build Challenge

The challenge is open to 12 teams of 4 ākonga from Year 7/8, who are ready to battle against each other in speed builds using the context of Sir Ian Taylor’s Mātauranga – Land of Voyagers content.

Teams will be tasked with collaboratively building a Waka Hourua using Minecraft. 

Delivered in English Medium, with Te Ao Māori values and te reo Māori at the forefront. 

Team Registration

Registrations are open to one team per school, this will give a good representation across Ōtepoti. 

Please feel free to register a second team, if a spot becomes available we will be in touch to let you know to start training.

Please register your first team, on the ‘Competing Team’ Ticket,

if you would like to register a second team, please use the ‘Backup Team’ Ticket.

What you get

Delicious Kai will be provided for team members and one support kaiako.

Support material to train for the tournament. 

Tournament Rules and Rules of Engagement will be sent out closer to the time.


Teams will be judged on SPEED, EXECUTION, and TEAMWORK.

The top team in each category will win a $50 Harvey Norman voucher.
